PBII is a new name in the land of Progessive Rock. This new band was founded in april 2008, but they collected a load of experience during the years. Let's explain the name PBII: PBII is the abbreviation for Plackband 2.

The ex-Plackband members Tom, Michel and Ronald are now complete with bassit Harry. Harry used to play in the rock coverband De Rockenjagers. Harry was looking for a while for a good Progrockband to let all his creativity out. His diversity and fabulous technics are a positiv addition to PBII. All the former members of Plackband wanted to start all over again and take a different route. This resulted in a fresh start and a new name.

Their style became a mix of progrock, jazzrock and neo-symphical rock. "Goosebumps, impressive and surprising, that a words that people who hear the new PBII use to describe their thoughts. Sometimes they get compared to the English Progband Frost. But that should be no surprise, knowing the two bands are close to each other.

Na tien jaar hard werken, voortbouwen op de muzikale erfenis van hun jeugd en het verbeteren vanhun instrumentale kunsten kwamen de Astral Travellers aan op een cruciaal punt. Nu moesten ze eenkeuze maken: “Gaan we voor lekkere luisterliedjes, of willen we een echt muzikaal statement maken enmaar afwachten wat het publiek ervan vindt?

”De Astral Travellers groeiden op in het zuiden van Nederland, temidden van de metal en de glamrockvan de jaren tachtig, en in de naijlende classic rock van de jaren zeventig. Wat goed is komt snel, dusde verschillende bandleden begonnen al op jonge leeftijd met het volgen van lessen. Het gerucht gaatdat het kerkkoor van de zanger zo moe werd van zijn Robert Plant imitatie dat ze hem eruit hebbengegooid. De Astral Travellers spelen sinds hun twaalfde in bandjes, en de meesten van hen spelensamen vanaf het begin van 1997 in de rockgroep The Lower Lifeforms, waar ze locaal succesvol meewaren. Na een doorstart in 2000 in de band Oker was de chemie compleet, en de groep is sindsdienniet meer van samenstelling veranderd. Na jaren van nummers schrijven en optreden, groeide langzaam een sterk gevoel om zich niet langer inte houden, om geen concessies meer te doen, maar volledig tot het uiterste te gaan.

Helemaal terugnaar de bron van rock, metal en progrock, beïnvloed door idolen van nu als Dream Theater, Tool,Metallica en Porcupine Tree, en de grote meesters van vroeger zoals Deep Purple, Yes en Genesis. Ditresulteerde begrijpelijkerwijs niet in standaard ‘couplet-refrein-couplet’-liedjes, maar in langerenummers met een organische structuur, symfonische synthesizers en experimentele ritmes. Dit allesvergezeld door de klassieke tekstuele prog-thema’s over fictie, fantasie, oorlog en liefde. Bij dit nieuwgekozen pad hoorde een nieuwe bandnaam: de Astral Travellers.

Als hoogtepunt van de ‘geen concessies’-houding besloot de band om hun laatste album helemaal zelfop te nemen, wat het grootste deel van 2008 in beslag nam. Elk bandlid heeft veelervaring in het bespelen van zijn instrument, en heeft in meerdere bands gespeeld, van indie-pop totmetal.

It has taken them ten years of hard work, of cultivating their musical heritage of their upbringing and honing their technical skills to come to the point a choice had to be made: “Are we going for a quick win or do we really want to make a musical statement and find out how the outside world sees it all?”

The Astral Travellers grew up in the South of the Netherlands in the midst of the metal and glam rock of the eighties, and in the afterglow of the classic rock of the seventies. Real performers emerge young , so the different members of the band started taking lessons at a juvenile age. Word goes that the singer’s church choir grew tired of his Robert Plant impersonation and kicked him out, although this has never been officially confirmed. The Astrals started joining different bands at the age of twelve, and most of them hooked up in early 1997 in the rock formation The Lower Lifeforms, which gave them local fame. After regrouping in 2000 in the band Oker the chemistry was complete, and the group has not changed since.

After years of composing and performing the sentiment grew to no longer hold back, to make no concessions and to go all the way. All the way back to the source of rock, metal and progressive, influenced by their idols of today like Dream Theater, Tool, Metallica and Porcupine Tree and the big masters of before like Deep Purple, Yes and Genesis. This resulted in no ‘verse-chorus-verse-chorus’-tunes but longer songs with an organic composition, symphonic synths and experimental rhythms. All this accompanied by the classic lyrical prog-themes about fiction, fantasy, war and love. With this new chosen path, a new and final band name is chosen: Astral Travellers.

In the apex of the no-compromise attitude they decided to record their latest album totally by themselves, which took them the larger part of 2008. The result is the 48 minutes, 5 song record ‘The Truth Beyond.
